I’ve been giving a talk called Make Your Thing for some time now, in all kinds of different venues around the country (and even in other countries). It’s about how to make media independently in the 21st century, and people really seem to like it and find it useful and inspirational.
It’s essentially a roundup of 12 people that have inspired me - many of them just pals of mine - and what I learned from them. The people range from Xeni Jardin of BoingBoing to the rapper Killer Mike. Even the Insane Clown Posse make an appearance.
Thanks to the encouragement of my friend Jay Allison, who is no stranger to media-making inspiration himself, I’ve written a text version of the talk for the public media website Transom.org. I hope you’ll take a second to give it a read.

If you are a creative person, you really should treat yourself to a read of Jesse Thorn’s Make Your Thing.  Do that, and you’ll be More Powerful Than Ever.
